Mr. Samuel White was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function.
Mr. White pursued goals in therapy that included improvements in strength for standing dynamic activities, muscle endurance for walking increased distances, and balance for the progression of activity tolerance. He displayed increased motivation to return home as therapeutic interventions continued. With the clinical team tailoring exercise activities towards Samuel’s goals, he rapidly demonstrated advancements in dynamic stability, walking distance, and activity tolerance. Driving his success in therapy was continued goal to go home.
With the completion of therapy, Mr. White exhibited pleasure in his accomplished goals and for the opportunity to return home. He states that he improved in many aspects during therapy and enjoyed the facility. He continues to state that although he enjoyed his stay there is nothing like home.

Arthur “Art” Figgins was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function.
“Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”- Confucius. The saying is the essence of Mr. Figgins’ character. With a goal of returning home, Mr. Art Figgins enthusiastically participated in skilled therapy services of Physical and Occupational Therapy to improve dynamic stability and strength in the extremities, functional task performance, safety during ADLs. Mr. Figgins tackled various barriers that presented itself during his stay with a positive yet unwavering focus to accomplish his goal. Along with therapy services, Mr. Figgins demonstrated significant strides towards independence, dynamic stability, and safety awareness.
With the improvements, Mr. Figgins was able to complete therapy services. His excitement for all he accomplished radiated through each department. Mr. Figgins states that he has really enjoyed his stay here at Christian Care Center of Unicoi and that the therapy team made “work” fun. He continues to say that he is glad that he has the tools to be successful at home.

Mr. Terry Stockton was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function.
Mr. Stockton pursued goals in therapy that included improvements in strength for dynamic stability during activities of daily living, extremity muscle endurance for walking increased distances, and balance for the progression of activity tolerance. With the clinical team tailoring exercise activities towards Mr. Stockton's goals, he quickly demonstrated advancements in dynamic stability, ambulation distance, and activity tolerance. Driving his success in therapy was his will to go home.
With the completion of therapy, Mr. Stockton exhibited increased enthusiasm for the opportunity to return home. He states that he enjoyed therapy, and it has helped but his heart is at home. By the end, Mr. Stockton determination to go home, led him to his ultimate goal, home and back to his daily activities.

Ms. Mary Shook was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function
With the goal of returning to her home, Ms. Shook quickly made consistent efforts to improve function with the help of therapy services provided by Physical and Occupational Therapy. Ms. Shook focused on enhancing stability and strength with tasks directed for the improvement of muscle endurance, strength, and dynamic stability. With the helping hand of each therapist, Ms. Shook's efforts yielded significant improvements in the ability to complete functional task with the culmination of all extremities, exhibited balance during dynamic activities in standing, walking with improved gait pattern and muscle endurance.
With the completion of therapy, Ms. Shook demonstrated overwhelming excitement for the chance to return home. She states upon completion of therapy that therapy aided in her betterment in hopes of going home. She continues to state that she feels stronger after the completion of therapy. She ended stating that she had a good experience here at Christian Care Center of Unicoi County.

Mr. Chandler focused on enhancing stability and strength with tasks directed for the improvement of muscle endurance, strength, and dynamic stability. Under the guidance of each therapist, Mr. Chandler demonstrated significant improvements in the ability to complete functional task with the culmination of all extremities, exhibited balance during dynamic activities in standing and seated, walk with improved gait pattern and muscle endurance.
With the completion of Therapy, Mr. Chandler indicated excitement for the opportunity to return home. He states upon completion of therapy that therapy did him good and he was better than when he came in. He ended stating that he enjoyed his experience here at Christian Care Center of Unicoi County.

Mr. Jamie Gauntt was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function.
With a goal of returning to his home, Mr. Gauntt concentrated his efforts to improve function with the help of therapy services provided by Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy. Mr. Gauntt pursued improvements in functional task focused on muscle endurance, strength, and dynamic stability. Under the guidance of each therapist, Mr. Gauntt demonstrated significant improvements in the ability to complete functional task with the culmination of all extremities, walk with improved gait pattern, and exhibit balance during dynamic activities.
With the completion of Therapy, Mr. Gauntt displayed excitement for the opportunity to return home. He states upon completion of therapy, that he enjoyed therapy and will continue to complete each exercise and techniques that were demonstrated by therapy. Ending his statement Mr. Gauntt thanked staff, stating that he thought all he learned from therapy was beneficial.

April is Parkinson's Awareness Month. This month is dedicated to raising awareness about Parkinson's Disease and supporting those living with the condition.

Mr. Guinn and his wife chose Christian Care of Unicoi County to assist in regaining his functional loss from Parkinson’s disease. He is continuing to benefit from Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy, and he was recently discharged from Speech Therapy! Mr. Guinn and Bailey, our Speech Therapist, made a lot of progress during his stay.
As an additional service we were able to provide his spouse with caregiver assist information and handouts to assist her in understanding the disease process in addition to other resources that could be informative for their individual needs as a family.
The Guinn's currently continue their therapy journey, and we are fortunate that we have been chosen to be a part of their story.
Celebrating these two lovely ladies as this Occupational Therapy Month comes to a close.
Whitney Sams, Occupational Therapist, has been working with us at Christian Care of Unicoi County for 3 years. She has a unique spark with patients and has a caregiver’s heart. The patients enjoy the expertise she brings to the table.
Ms. Vickie Hosteller recently graduated from her therapy program. Vickie was born to two deaf parents and utilized her use of signing as a means of teaching others in various hospitals and colleges as well as serving on many mission trips in other countries. She has taught several of our staff members various signs and enjoys her continued teaching in this, her home. She expressed that she enjoys coming to the therapy room as the therapists “bring here joy.”
We thank both of you for your efforts and positive impact on others.

Please help us in celebrating the recovery success of Cecilia Keesecker. Mrs. Keesecker chose Christian Care of Unicoi County to assist her in her road to recovery after knee surgery. We enjoyed her humor during her stay.
She benefited from Physical and Occupational Therapy which allowed her to regain her independence in walking, improve the ability to go up and down stairs and improve her ability to perform activities of daily living. Mrs. Keesecker report, “therapy was great, it was appropriate to my level but also helped me to improve my strength and reach my goal which was to ambulate safely."

Mr. Tony Love is this week’s success story. Mr. Love opted on Christian Care Center of Unicoi County after his recent hospitalization. He and his family quickly adapted and participated in Physical and Occupational Therapy with much enthusiasm.
In just sixteen brief days, he was armed with the preparation for his next journey and increased independence. His therapy included suggested adaptations for his home and entry way to help maintain independence. We served Mr. Love with a happy heart. He reports that he was pleased with his care while at our facility and “you guys did a great job.”

We had the pleasure of assisting Mary Erwin with her transition home. We are thankful to her for choosing Christian Care Centers of Unicoi to assist her with her needs. Mrs. Erwin was successful with her therapy program and returned home to be with her husband.
We are proud of her quick progress as she was always eager to participate. Due to the therapy's tailored approach, she improved in areas of gait, balance, as well as activities of daily living. Mrs. Erwin states, “you girls have been the best and I’m going to miss you so much”.
