Our residents had a "Rock and Roll" afternoon with Lightning Charlie! We are always having fun at Christian Care Center of Unicoi.

Mrs. Jo Ann Whitson was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function.


Mrs. Whitson pursued goals in therapy that included improvements in strength for dynamic stability during activities of daily living, extremity muscle endurance for walking increased distances, and balance for the progression of activity tolerance. With the Clinical Team tailoring exercise activities towards Mrs. Whitson's goals, she quickly demonstrated advancements in dynamic stability, walking distance, and daily activity tolerance. Driving her success in therapy was her increasing will to go home.


With the completion of therapy, Mrs. Whitson exhibited exuberance for the opportunity to return home. She states that she enjoyed therapy, and it helped her improve her balance and ability to do “daily tasks”, but she is even more excited to go home. Mrs. Whitson was a joy in therapy with a smiling face and a resoluteness to accomplish her destination. By the end of her stay, Mrs. Whitson's determination to go home led her to her ultimate goal. July 15, 2026

Mr. Hollifield was admitted to Christian Care of Unicoi County following several months of progressive functional decline and an episode of acute respiratory failure. Mr. Hollifield also had recent pneumonia, which left him significantly weakened, decreased his endurance, and required assistance with daily activities.


Upon admission, an individualized care plan was developed by our Interdisciplinary Team. Respiratory therapy focused on improving his breathing, airway clearance, oxygen management, and overall respiratory endurance. At the same time, physical and occupational therapy worked to rebuild his strength, mobility, balance and independence with daily tasks.


Through determination, hard work, and the support of our dedicated Rehabilitation Team, Mr. Hollifield made steady progress throughout his stay. His respiratory status improved, his endurance increased, and he regained the strength and confidence needed to perform daily activities more independently.


Thanks to Mr. Hollifield's commitment and the efforts of respiratory therapy, rehabilitation services, nursing and the entire Care Team, he achieved his therapy goals and was able to safely discharge home with an improved quality of life.


Everyone here at Christian Care of Unicoi is proud to have been part of Mr. Hollifield's recovery journey and wishes him continued health and success.

Ms. Pearl Peterson was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function. 


With a goal of returning back to her home, Ms. Peterson quickly established consistent efforts to improve function with the help of therapy services provided by Physical and Occupational Therapy. Ms. Peterson focused on enhancing stability and strength with tasks directed for the improvement of muscle endurance, strength, and dynamic stability. With a helping hand of each therapist, Ms. Peterson's efforts yielded significant improvements in the ability to complete functional task with the culmination of all extremities, exhibited balance during dynamic activities in standing, walk with improved gait pattern and muscle endurance. 


With the completion of therapy, Ms. Peterson demonstrated overwhelming excitement for the chance to return home. She states upon completion of therapy that therapy was very enjoyable, and she felt like that she made strides with each visit. She continues to thank each staff member for their contributions to her begin able to go home.


In the end, Ms. Peterson was elated to go home and get back to her daily activities, leaving therapy with a thank you and a smile. Thank you for choosing Christian Care Center of Unicoi County for your Rehabilitation. We are proud of the progress you made!

Mrs. Donna Atkins was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function. 


Mrs. Atkins began therapy with her mind on returning home. When asked about her goals at the beginning of therapy, Mrs. Atkins states that she wants to improve muscle endurance, balance, mobility, and balance during functional tasks. Mrs. Atkins displayed determination which allowed her to improve and advance in functional tasks that challenged the stability and mobility of Mrs. Atkins during activities of daily living. Driving her continued success was the will to go home better than when she left. 


With the completion of therapy, Mrs. Atkins exhibited exuberance for the opportunity to return home. She states that she enjoyed therapy, and it helped her improve her balance and ability to do “daily tasks”, but she is even more excited to go home. By the end of her stay, Mrs. Atkin's determination helped her to go home with improved strength and mobility.

Ms. Peggy Hardin was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function.

Driving her success in therapy was her increasing will to go home


With the completion of therapy, Ms. Hardin exhibited exuberance for the opportunity to return home. She states that she enjoyed therapy, and it helped her improve her balance and ability to do “daily tasks”, but she is even more excited to go home. Ms. Hardin was a joyful patient that even when therapy was hard, always kept a smile and a joke going. By the end of her stay, Ms. Hardin determination to go home, led her to her ultimate goal, home.

Mrs. Linda Sliger was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function.

She states upon completion of therapy, that therapy was the best she has ever had.” She continues to state that she really enjoyed coming down to the gym each day even when it was hard and is appreciative for continued pushing to get better.”

Joint Commission Accreditation!


This accreditation is the gold standard for healthcare. Less than 7 percent of skilled nursing homes in the US achieve this accreditation. Joint Commission is the same organization that recognizes quality services in hospitals such as Vanderbilt, Duke, John Hopkins, Mayo Clinic, etc.

Mr. Wendell Masters was admitted to Christian Care of Unicoi County for rehabilitation following a complex medical course that included bilateral lower extremity cellulitis, acute kidney failure, congestive heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, and a history of smoking.


Upon admission, Mr. Masters presented with significant muscle weakness and required supplemental oxygen to maintain adequate oxygen saturation.

Throughout Wendell's stay, respiratory care played a key role in his recovery. Care included close monitoring of his respiratory status, oxygen therapy management, patient education, and collaboration with nursing and therapy services to support overall rehabilitation goals.


Consistent assessment and gradual titration of oxygen support led to Mr. Masters steady improvement in respiratory function and endurance. As strength and mobility increased, oxygen requirements decreased. Prior to discharge, he was successfully weaned off supplemental oxygen and maintained stable oxygen saturation on room air.


Wendell's outcome reflects the effectiveness of coordinated interdisciplinary care and highlights the impact of respiratory therapy in improving patient independence and quality of life. He was discharged home without needing oxygen, demonstrating significant clinical progress from admission.

Our Easter Celebration included prayer and scripture, wonderful food and two special visitors - The Easter Bunny and our new friend, Rudy the Lamb. The party was enjoyed by all who attended. Our most wonderful gift...He arose!

Mrs. Aldebaran Bird was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function.


Mrs. Bird pursued goals in therapy that included improvements in strength for dynamic stability during activities of daily living, extremity muscle endurance for walking increased distances, and balance for the progression of activity tolerance. With the Clinical Team tailoring exercise activities towards Mrs. Bird's goals, she quickly demonstrated advancements in dynamic stability, walking distance, and activity tolerance. Driving her success in therapy was her increasing drive to go home.


With the completion of therapy, Mrs. Bird exhibited exuberance for the opportunity to return home. She states that she enjoyed therapy and that she was happy she was able to set a goal out and accomplish it. Aldebaran Bird was a diligent, work-driven patient that brought a sense of wanting to understand and perform each day. By the end of her stay, Mrs. Bird's resoluteness led her to her ultimate goal, home.

Mrs. Hazel Webb was a resident of Christian Care of Unicoi County who admitted to our Rehabilitation Center to participate in our inpatient program following a decline in function. 


Mrs. Webb pursued goals in therapy that included improvements in strength for dynamic stability during activities of daily living, extremity muscle endurance for walking increased distances, and balance for the progression of activity tolerance. With the Clinical Team tailoring exercise activities towards Mrs. Webb's goals, she quickly demonstrated advancements in dynamic stability, walking distance, and activity tolerance. Driving her success in therapy was her increasing will to go home. 


With the completion of therapy, Mrs. Webb exhibited exuberance for the opportunity to return home. She states that she enjoyed therapy and that her overall stay at Christian Care Center of Unicoi was great. She continues to state that outside of therapy her favorite activities were Bible Study and playing BINGO. By the end of her stay, Mrs. Webb's resoluteness led her to her ultimate goal, home.
